Emily Schorr
With a collaborative, strengths-based approach, Emily supports clients in reconnecting with their inner resources so that healing and meaningful change can unfold in a way that feels steady and sustainable. She holds the belief that people already carry the insight and capacity for growth within them, and that real, lasting change happens in the context of a safe, attuned, and trusting therapeutic relationship.
Emily works with adults navigating complex trauma, post-traumatic stress (PTSD), attachment wounds, anxiety, depression, grief (including pet loss), and major life transitions. She also supports individuals experiencing career anxiety, burnout, and uncertainty about their professional direction, helping them make sense of the emotional and psychological factors shaping their work lives.
She has a particular sensitivity to the experience of caregiving for sick or aging loved ones, and understands the impact this can have on identity, emotional capacity, and career decision-making.
Her work integrates evidence-based approaches including EMDR, parts work (Internal Family Systems and Ego State therapy), somatic therapies, and clinical hypnosis. Her approach is also informed by polyvagal theory, with a focus on how the nervous system shapes emotional regulation, stress responses, and decision-making and she uses the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) to help clients with nervous system regulation.
Emily’s work is especially helpful for individuals who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected—whether in their personal lives or careers—and who are looking to move forward in a way that feels both grounded and aligned with who they are.
Emily is a Registered Provisional Psychologist based in Calgary, Alberta. She holds a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University, a Master of Science in Psychiatric Science from King’s College London, and a Bachelor of Arts from Queen’s University. In addition to her clinical training, she brings over sixteen years of experience in mental health and clinical research, including work in public health, concussion care, palliative care, and oncology.
Originally drawn to Calgary for the mountains and access to the outdoors, Emily now calls it home. Outside of her practice, she enjoys hiking, cycling, paddle boarding, cross-country skiing, and snowboarding, and has recently taken up golf. She also loves quiet evenings reading by the fireplace—with a cup of tea, a cat in her lap, and a dog nearby—and is a longtime supporter of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra.
